Your PIN is personal and ensures that only you can use your card in shops or at ATMs.
When you shop online, you may be prompted to enter a password to verify that the purchase is in fact made by you. So this password is as personal and important as your PIN.
Password for online shopping
An increasing number of Internet shops use this password. The security solution is termed Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode, depending on the card you are using. When you enter your password, you confirm that you are the owner of the card, and the solution provides extra security against unauthorised use of your card details.
It is up to the individual shop to decide whether to use the Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode solution.
Create a password
When you make your first payment in an Internet shop that uses the Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode solution, you need to create your own personal password. Once you have done this, you can use the same password in other Internet shops using the security solution.
You may want to create your password in advance to skip the process while making your first online purchase. You must create a password for each card number, but you can use the same password for all your cards.
Personal message
When you create your personal password, you will be asked to provide a personal message. This message will be shown before you enter your password to make an online purchase. Only PBS (Danish Payment Business Services) keeps records of your personal message.
If a website prompts you to enter your personal password, but fails to show your personal message correctly, immediately close down the page without entering your personal password.
